Promotions and a New Hire Strengthen Open Hand Management Team
by Executive Director, Matthew Pieper
As Open Hand’s business model and impact in the community continues to grow, I want to make sure our management structure keeps pace with our growth. To that end it is with a great sense of pride that I have promoted Susan Anderson to the newly created role of Chief Operating Officer. Susan is a 10-year veteran of Open Hand who began her career as a Grants Manager, then served as Interim Director of Development before being promoted to Director of Strategic Partnerships, and then Senior Director of Operations. Her leadership in transforming our operations by analyzing and enhancing all our processes has been tremendous. Working with Georgia Tech Enterprise Innovation Institute, Susan has introduced Lean principles into our production and, in doing so, has improved our quality, efficiencies and cost management. I have great confidence in Susan’s abilities and together we will expand the reach of Open Hand’s mission.
Robert (Bob) Cuellar, CPA, has joined our management team as Senior Director of Accounting. Previously, Bob was Controller and Co-Owner of Atlantic United Construction in Conyers, GA. In this role, he was responsible for all accounting, banking, human resource, IT, legal, insurance, and administrative functions for this commercial construction company with operations throughout the United States. Bob is a seasoned financial expert with more than 20 years of relevant experience. His accounting and finance knowledge will serve Open Hand well.
Additionally, Julie Shipkoski, R.D., has been promoted to Food Services Director reporting into Anderson. In her new role, Julie will supervise, sustain and improve all aspects of high quality and efficient food production, including menu development, purchasing/inventory, culinary and packing. Shipkoski joined Open Hand in January 2010 and has provided leadership for ensuring that Open Hand menus meet or exceed the nutritional standards needed to help our clients to prevent or better manage chronic disease. Shipkoski also provided leadership for the successful launch and implementation of Cbord, Open Hand’s new food service management system.
Tonya Howard has been promoted from Associate Director of Volunteer Services to Director of Volunteer Services. She succeeds Shawan Allen who recently resigned her post after five and a half years of dedicated service in order to join the Cox Automotive Team. Tonya holds a PhD in Public Policy & Public Administration, specializing in Nonprofit/Volunteer Management, and has been with Open Hand since August of 2014. She is an incredible ambassador for Open Hand and is deeply committed to finding new ways to enhance our volunteer experience.
